New 52 | Week 18: Book Club

I have always wanted to join a book club, especially a book club with women. To me, books + friends = awesomeness. So some time last year, I signed up for a women's book club meetup group in San Diego. However, I never made it to any of their book club meetings. For one reason or another, either because of schedule, location, or the book they were reading, I just never went.

At the end of March, at one of our Asian Food Club meetings, Todd's friend Maria told me that she started a book club a few years ago. They are all women, ages from 20's to 60's, and they meet once a month at a member's house with wine and hors d'oeuvres. That sounded really great to me, so I told her I'd like to join them for their April meeting.

For April, we read "Georgia Bottoms" by Mark Childress. I bought the ebook for my Sony Reader for $11.99, because I love my Sony Reader and it's instant. Plus the book is still in hardback.

I must confess that I only read 61 out of 209 pages before I went to the book club meeting on Thursday 4/28. Truth is, I didn't love what I had read so far. The main character wasn't very sympathetic and didn't have any redeeming qualities for us to like her, or even think she's interesting.

What I did enjoy was going to the book club and meeting all the wonderful and interesting women there though! I'm fairly certain that we chatted for over two hours and only about 15 minutes was about the book itself, LOL. The hostess Christina was awesome and made lasagna on top of having wines, cheeses, crackers, veggies, hummus, and dip. I had an enjoyable time and they were very welcoming of a newbie. I didn't take any pictures AT the book club because I didn't want everyone to think I'm the crazy woman who takes pictures of everything my first time there. They will know that soon enough. ;p In May we are reading "Jane Eyre" and I'm looking forward to reading this classic and going to book club again. :)

Update on my last week's New 52 Project Life. I am still enjoying it so much! This week I printed all my photos at home and set them on my new craft table to dry before putting them into the page protectors.

I LOVE looking at my photos printed out and gathered on a table! Makes it look like my life is full.  Hmm.  My life IS full, and I'm so grateful for it!

A look at another page from a couple weeks back.

I've got all the photos and memorabilia put into the protectors for this past week. I just need to do the journaling and decorate a bit. :)

About This Project

New52 is a project started by Peppermint and I to encourage each other and others around us to try something new every week in 2011. The "new" each week doesn't have to be something big. It could be something as simple as ordering a new dish instead of old standbys at your favorite restaurant. It's simply opening your heart up to NEW possibilities.

Don't worry if you're late getting started on joining in. It's totally OK if you miss a week here or there. We encourage everyone to keep an open mind about trying something new. This is a life project, and a photography/blog and even scrap challenge if you wish. If you participate this week, please leave a link to your blog post in the link list below. You can also post images to our New 52 Flickr Group! We would love to see what you were inspired to do.

  1. OK, so now I'm convinced you live in a different time dimension to me, one where time lasts longer, there are more than 60mins in an hour, 24hrs in a day and so on ... you work, you run, you scrap, you design, you run a house AND you have time to read???? Please share you secrets with me!!!! LOL!
P.S. have you pre-warned your Book Club ladies that you'll be taking photos at the next meeting. Tee-hee!

  2. Ha ha, Sue! I basically don't have any "free" time. I hardly watch TV, maybe 2 hours a week. I sleep less than I should. Basically, I need to relax more, LOL!

  3. I was just thinking the same thing as Sue . . . you have time to read? I guess if I didn't watch as much TV as I do, I would have the time too. Somehow my husband doesn't have the same problem as I do. He doesn't need as much sleep as I do so when I am out, he turns on the lamp to read.

love, love, love seeing your project life coming together. It so inspires me to try it next year.

  4. I have always wanted to be in a book club. Maybe I should see if there is something somewhere around here. I'm always so scared to be the new person. LOL
