Lily Bee Layout | 5 Faves

My last layout for Lily Bee Design is on their blog today.  This week we are focusing on white space layouts.

I'm not usually a white space scrapper, but I love looking at other people's white space layouts.  And just because it's "white space" doesn't mean the background has to be white or even a solid color.  I used a woodgrain polaroid paper from the Lily Bee Destination collection for my background.  The cool thing about white space layouts is that they really drawn your eye to the photo. 

I love that the colors of all the papers and embellishments really pop off the woodgrain background.

I used a smaller photo and clustered my papers and embellishments around the photo, leaving the rest of the layout bare with space.

I used a stencil from The Crafter's Workshop and drew the camera onto the yellow patterned paper.  Then I fussy-cut it and embellished it.

Lastly, I used a Uni-ball Signo gold pen to journal onto the woodgrain paper.

I’ve decided to step-down from the Lily Bee Design Team after my term ends at the end of September.  (Actually the DT term ended at the end of August, but we were asked to stay an extra month.)  I’ve loved using Lily Bee products to create layouts, cards, and projects the past seven months!  It will be exciting to see what new lines will be released this fall.  You can see all my projects for Lily Bee here on my blog.

Lily Bee Design | Music Under The Stars

I created a layout for the Lily Bee blog on Monday.  This week on the Lily Bee blog we are focusing on mixed media paint & textures, so I incorporated colored mist, acrylic craft paint, modeling paste, watercolor, Stickles glitter, and chalk ink onto my layout.  Sometimes it’s so fun to get your hands dirty for a bit!
I’ve been creating my own colored mists with Martha Stewart acrylic craft paint mixed with water in a mini mister!  They are so fun and economical!  I used the same method with my September layout for Write.Click.Scrapbook. here.

My first step was to use some colored mists and spray onto my background cardstock with a mask.  Then I used a different mask to spread some modeling paste onto the layout in the shape of stars.  Modeling paste actually dries pretty fast, so you need to work fast with it.  After the modeling paste stars dried, I painted them with some acrylic craft paint.

I outlined some of the sprayed stars with my Sharpie pen to emphasize some of them.  I also painted additional stars and circles onto the layout using craft paint, chalk ink, and watercolor paint.

The random smattering of paint clusters gives the layout a carefree and fun look, which I like.

Lastly, I added some letter stickers for my title, and added some journaling with my Sharpie pen.

Lily Bee Design | Catch A Wave

I had a layout on the Lily Bee Design blog yesterday.  The theme this week is “Unique Paper Techniques”.  And yesterday was also sketch Tuesday, so Becky Williams and I decided to combine paper technique, the August layout sketch, and summer photos.

My layout is based on this sketch on the Lily Bee blog.

The circles toward the bottom of the sketch reminded me of portholes.  And since my layout is nautical/ocean in nature, I thought it would be perfect to make them look like underwater portholes!  Here’s my layout, Catch A Wave.

Supplies:  Destination Collection (Luggage paper, Atlas paper, 6x6 Tiny Tablet, Label Stickers, Chit Chat Stickers, Letter Stickers, Embellishment Bundle), Sweet Shoppe Collection (Candy Stick paper, Jelly Bean paper, Licorice Whip paper), Pinwheel Collection (6x6 Tiny Tablet).

My paper technique here is that I used a 1.75" circle punch to punch five circles directly out of my background paper.  Then I used a 2" circle punch to punch vellum and patterned paper circles to fill the holes.  I filled the holes with sequins, wood veneers, and papers to create little underwater scenes. 

I used my Silhouette digital cutter to cut out some wave shapes with patterned paper to adhere behind and in front of my photo to create movement.

I hand-cut a fish and attached some twine from the embellishment bundle to it.  I dropped some color mist onto my layout to make it look like water splashes and air bubbles in the ocean.

I really enjoyed making this summer water-themed layout using the August Lily Bee sketch and some cool paper techniques!  :-)  Oh, I’ve had a couple of questions on how I was able to capture the photo.  Todd and I were riding the same wave.  I was on my own boogie board and I took the shot with my Olympus waterproof camera strapped to my wrist.

Lily Bee Design | Project Life Week 31

I blogged at the Lily Bee Design blog on Friday about my latest Project Life pages.  This year I’m taking a more relaxed approach with Project Life.  Which means I probably won’t get around to documenting the whole year, and I tend to skip around.  This is totally okay with me.  I love Project Life for what it is.  It is a joy to look through my photos, pick my favorites and print them out, and work on my album.  Any pages I get done, I’m happy.  :-)

I don’t do weekly Project Life, but this is roughly the Week 31 timeframe.

I don’t use Week # titles in my 2013 album.  Mainly because I don’t do this every week.  Also because I’d rather put a real title or theme in my album with my photos, rather than just say “Week 31”.  I don’t think that in 15 years when I look back on my album, I would care what week # it was in 2013.  For this spread, I decided to give it a "Fun In The Sun" title, because it was all about hanging out outside with friends!

I used a lot of Lily Bee label stickers, chit chat stickers, and circle & tag stickers on my page.  I love adding a circle sticker to a photo, and the label stickers are perfect for Project Life!

I used the July Studio Calico add-on stamp set designed by my friend Lili Niclass to stamp the “Let’s Eat” on my photo, and the “#PROJECTLIFE” on the bottom of the journal card.

I created the pink camera journal card on the left by using a background stamp and inking it up with the impression side up, then laying down my blank journal card and pressing on it.  Then I added two Lily Bee Chit Chat Stickers.

On the left, it was all about our dinner at Monello. 

I wrote my journaling about our dinner right on top of a card that I got from the restaurant.  I adhered it to the Lily Bee paper underneath in the 4x6 slot.  I also included our receipt.

Lily Bee | DIY String Envelope Tutorial

I blogged last Friday on the Lily Bee blog with a tutorial on how to make this cute A2 envelope using scrapbooking supplies.  You can see the tutorial here on the Lily Bee blog. 

Supplies:  Pinwheel Collection (Flower Box paper, 6x6 Tiny Tablet, Embellishment Bundle, Label Stickers)

Or here on my blog as well!  I swoon whenever I see cute handmade envelopes or pockets of any kind. I just think they are so cute!  I will show you how to make a string-tie envelope sized at A2.  The size of this envelope is very convenient because all handmade A2 cards (4.25" x 5.5") will fit inside.  You can also use this envelope on a layout too.

These are the supplies you will need:

• 12 x 12 piece of patterned paper
• twine or string
• buttons or brads
• circle punch
• paper trimmer
• scoring board or bone folder
• scissors
• ruler
• hole punch
• adhesive

To start out, I cut my piece of pattern paper to 9.5" x 7.75".

Next, I scored two lines on the long side of the paper, one at 1/2", and another one at 5".

On the short side, I scored lines at 1 3/4" and 7 3/8".

Your paper will look like this after scoring.

Next, I cut out the corners of the paper like this.

I folded the paper into the envelope shape.  I rounded the corners of the flaps.

Next I measured where I wanted my holes for the brads to be.  I wanted them halfway across the 4.5" side, so I drew circles at 2.25" across.

The two pencil-marked circles are where my brads will go.

Next, I used my 1" circle punch to punch out two circles in a contrasting color than my envelope color.

Then I hole-punched the center of each circle.

I lined up the hole on the circle to where I had drawn a circle, and pushed the brad into the paper.

This is what your paper looks like after both circles and brads are attached.

I folded the two strips of flaps and put adhesive on them.  Then I folded the large flap over to make the envelope.

Then I tied some twine from the Pinwheel Embellishment Bundle around both brads under the paper circles to close the flaps together.

To complete the look, I adhered a Label Sticker to the front of the envelope.  I think it adds a nice finishing touch! :)

I can't wait to put a handmade card into this cute envelope and give it to the recipient!  I plan to also figure out the paper dimensions to make a 4x6 and 3x4 envelope to fit into my Project Life album. :)

Lily Bee | Makapuu Lighthouse

Last week was “Fun In The Sun” week on the Lily Bee blog.  For this theme, Becky Williams and I decided to scrap some vacation photos.  You can see the entire post and both of our layouts on the Lily Bee blog here. 

For my layout, I used a photo from our December 2011 vacation to Oahu.  We went on a hike to the Makapuu Lighthouse and enjoyed some gorgeous views along the way.

Supplies:  Destination Collection (Atlas paper, Luggage paper, Tickets paper, Boarding Pass paper, Souvenier paper, Postcard paper, Letter Stickers, Label Stickers, Chipboard Stickers, Embellishment Bundle, Circle & Tag Stickers, Chit Chat Stickers), Sweet Shoppe Collection (6x6 Tiny Tablet)

I made the large sun on top by cutting out a half circle and mounting it on foam adhesive.  Then I pierced some holes in the shape of lines radiating from the sun, and used the twin in the Destination Embellishment Bundle to create the sun rays.

I mixed some banners that I cut out from paper, along with a chipboard banner to create different textures and depths.

I used this Fun In The Sun cut file from the Silhouette online store and cut it out using the yellow airplane paper from Destination.

I used mostly blue and yellow colors on the layout, with brown and red thrown in.  I really like how it turned out!  :)
