On Hiatus

I've been thinking about my blog a lot and after blogging regularly for 6.5 years and over 1,300 posts, I think I need to take a break.  I'm putting my blog on hiatus for now.  I'm not sure when I will be back.  It could be soon or it could take a while.

I will fulfill my design team blog obligations still, since I've signed contracts for the duration of the term and I don't plan to break them.  I will still be on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, sharing my life.  I have loved blogging and the dialogue I've had with many of you through this blog.  Now that the blogosphere has changed and people don't comment on blogs anymore, I'm unsure of where my place is in this new environment.  I don't enjoy putting hours of work into the contents of a blog post and not receive any feedback on it.  So if that's how the current blogging environment is, then I will need to either make peace with it and give up on getting blog comments, or I need to leave it.  I can't change it, I can only accept it, change how I feel about it, or move on.

If during my hiatus I am itchy to come back to blogging, then I will know that in the future I will be blogging with a different purpose, one that would be intrinsically satisfying for myself, even if nobody comments.  I"m just not at that place right now, not yet.

So long for now.

Christine

  4. You should only do something if it makes you feel good. Have fun making memories and documenting them in your own way.

  7. I only learned of your blog earlier this year because of Project Life, yet I immediately placed it on my daily reads list. Besides crafty things I also learned alot from you about America's finest city (especially the eating spots!). :) Sorry to see you go from the blogosphere...

  9. I'm so sad to hear this Christine...but I totally understand your frustration...I'm glad I can still "see" you on the other social network!! I've really enjoyed your blog and your willingness to share a part of your life with the rest of us. Please continue to do what you do but what you feel is best for you... Thanks again for all the love and hard work you've put into making this blog one of my favorites.

  10. I understand too - and have been thinking about the same thing. The only person that checks on it is my MIL, and now that we skype with them every couple of nights, it's not so important either. (((hugs)))

  11. Hi Christine - I found your blog via Evalicious and have enjoyed it as a daily read ever since. I find your blog intellectual, helpful and tech-savvy .. and of course inspirational with all of your design work. You even convinced me to buy a new Canon printer! I'll miss your blog posts but I hope you enjoy the hiatus and hope you return.

  12. I do understand your need to take a break from the blogging world. I just hope it is not a long one. I do hope that when you find something that you totally love, feel inspired by, special announcements, fun travels, that you do come back and share here. For now I'll keep in touch via instagram or fb. Please take care and hope to see you blogging soon.

  15. I will miss your posts. I've never been one who comments very often on things. I don't talk much in person either. But if it doesn't bring you happiness, it's time to let it go. :)

  16. Even though I'll see you on IG and FB, I'll really miss your posts here. I totally understand your frustration though and I've told you before I'm guilty of not commenting. I do think it's something you have to love though...so if you do come back I'll know it's for that reason!! ((((hugs))))

  17. oh my! I totally understand the need to prioritize and make use of time wisely... so whatever you decide is the right decision for you - but it will be sad to see your blog go ;( wishing you the best and see you on social media!

  18. I will miss reading your adventures :( I think that there are more bloggers now than there were 6 years ago. I was reading someones blog just yesterday about switching over to 'old Reader' now now Google reader will be gone. She said it was easier to "read" the 100 blogs she follows. 100 BLOGS!!!!!! Holy Cow!!! Reading Blogs on ipad, iphone whatever make it hard to comment quickly as you scan the blogsphere. I hope you decide to return. in the meantime see you on IG.

  19. I've been thinking the same thing for the past little while. The blogosphere has definitely changed and I'm not so sure of my place in it anymore. Granted, I was never as high-profile as you but I still have the same thoughts. I keep writing because I've realized that if I don't write, I don't remember. Enjoy your break, I hope you find what you need!

  23. So sad you won't be blogging for a while but completely understand. I read many blogs but usually don't comment but I recently left you a comment on the Evalicious blog. I loved your most recent video showing your watercolor process - thank you so much for sharing! I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing more of your creations!

  25. I'll admit i am part of the problem, i am not great at commenting on blogs, but i wanted to pop in to say that i do love reading yours, so whenever you come back ,ill still be subscribing in my rs reader and look forward to whatever you feel like sharing.

  26. i enjoy coming here but have not commented. i assumed you were writing for you, but i understand a litle appreciation goes a long way.

  27. ::sniffle:: You will be missed, Christine! And I'm typing that as I sit eating a mason jar salad for lunch that Darren and I packed up *last* weekend after I read your post about it...and I left a comment there- LOL!!

If it helps, I don't get a lot of comments, either, but honestly I don't mind. I personally know I'm bad about not leaving comments because I'm busy and have tons of blogs in my Feedly and don't often hop over to the actual site to comment. I know a lot of people are in the same boat, so I make sure to blog for myself first and I'm totally good with that.

Hope to see you back to blogging at some point- I'll still be subscribing to your feed should you decide to. :)

  28. I am going on hiatus this summer too, and am sad I won't have your blog to read :( I have you in my phone a reading list and in bloglovin' so I'll be looking for your updates to pop up. I wonder if the reduced interaction is a reflection of so many smartphones. Since getting mine I find myself not leaving comments since I am so slow in using the tiny keys... at least we'll still have Instagram .

  33. I just found your blog a little while ago, I never commented, so sorry to see you go :-( I live just an hour north of you, and really enjoyed reading all the things to do in San Diego.

  34. I loved your blog but I do all my blog.reading.on my subway commute and therefore never comment on anyone's blog! Its my new.age.version of reading a.favorite magazine with all my favorite columnists in one issue! Sorry to see you go, enjoy the future wherever it takes you. Best, Louise

  35. I'll miss seeing your blog and reading about life in San Diego. I'm terrible about commenting, but your blog is one I always return to. Take care!

  36. I'm so glad it is not only me feeling neglected by good blog stats but no comments. A while ago I decided to quit and then my 20 year old cat died and a lot of Bloglanders whom I've never heard of sent messages. That gave me some perspective and motivation to keep on. Enjoy your sabbatical! Hope to have you back in Blogland SOON! I'm already missing Noodle.
