Thanksgiving 2013

My dad and his wife Shelly came down to San Diego for Thanksgiving at our house.  Last year we went to Phoenix to be with Todd’s mom’s family.  In 2011 we all went to my sister Joyce’s house in Texas.  The last time my dad & Shelly came to our house for Thanksgiving was 2010, and it was the first time we made the turkey dinner

Dad & Shelly drove down on Thursday morning.  We went to the Thanksgiving lunch buffet at Bali Hai on the San Diego harbor.

The view from the 2nd floor of the restaurant was spectacular!  You could see the entire San Diego skyline.

My Thanksgiving plate.  Yummy!

We had a lot of fun and camaraderie chatting and eating.  Although some of it was in Chinese Mandarin, so Todd only caught snippets.  (He took a year of Chinese in college and actually understands quite a bit and speaks some.)

We asked the waitress to take our photo.

After lunch, we went outside for the views and the tropical foliage.

The restaurant really is on a prime location!  Just outside the restaurant, you can see San Diego in all its glory.

Closer up.

Together on Thanksgiving.

We all took naps after we got home.  Then my sister Joyce called and we chatted.  She braved the crowds and went to Walmart when it opened!  We also watched some football.  What is Thanksgiving without some football!  In the evening, we watched “Star Trek Into Darkness” again, because my dad & Shelly hadn’t seen it.  It was my 4th time seeing the movie this year!  I just love that movie.

The next day, we had lunch before they left.  We were very multi-cultural.  Our lunch had wonton soup AND fish tacos!

Oh and Shelly brought me some Guai Guai.  I haven’t had these since I was a kid!

They’re basically like cheese puffs, except not cheese flavored.  There are several flavors.  These were coconut cream.  I used to love them as a kid.  Ah memories!

I’m thankful to spend Thanksgiving with Todd, my dad, and Shelly.  On November 30th, I finished my 30 Days of Thanks in my notebook.  Ice cream and pizza had their own entries. As did scrapbooking friends, warmth of a blanket and Noodle on my lap, and salvation through Christ. Big and small, there are lots of reasons to be thankful.  Oh and let’s not forget to be thankful that the Buckeyes beat the Wolverines on Sat 11/30!  Yeah!

  1. Happy post Thanksgiving Christine! It looks like there are many things to be thankful for this year!

  3. You know how I love the 'visits with dad' posts. He looks like such a sweet man. know I love the food photos...and..GET OUT! Todd knows Mandarin??? That is so cool.

(K4 just asked, "Is that the scrapbook lady that has the awesome cat, Noodle?") :)
