Everyday Ordinary

We’ve had a fairly ordinary week sprinkled with some fun.  Above photo was a journal card in the making.  Trying something new.

This past Thursday I had jury duty.  It never fails that every couple of years I get summoned. 

I didn’t get picked for a trial, and there was internet there.  They even had a café with coffee and banana bread.

We were dismissed by lunch time.  Since I was in the vicinity of Phil’s BBQ, I stopped by to get takeout for dinner.  Todd loves the El Toro sandwich at Phil’s.

On Monday I got to have lunch with my good friend Meera.  Any day that I get to see her is a good day!  I loved catching up with her.

We cooked some great food at home.  I’m slowly easing back into eating food I can chew again.  This braces thing is the pits.

On Saturday we had an early lunch at Panera, where I had soft foods, lol.

Then we went to see the movie “X-men: Days of Future Past”.  It was really spectacular.  I love X-men but love it even more after the last reboot origin story “X-men: First Class”. 

Todd showed me this article this week:  In Search of America’s Best Burrito.  What I really want to know is:  how do I get a job traveling the country trying out the best burritos? This is quite a comprehensive study... glad to see that four San Diego restaurants placed in the list. Of course we did.

On Friday morning as I was leaving for work, the mailman gave me a package for Todd.  It was obviously a pair of shoes. So the following text message exchange happened. (Bear in mind that he bought a pair of trail runners on Sat, and two pairs of regular running shoes on Monday.)

Me: Did you buy more shoes? One more pair came!
Todd: Yes, a pair of cross trainers.
Me: You bought 4 pairs of shoes in one week?? LOL, that's worse than Daryl.
Todd: I almost bought five.

And I couldn't stop laughing.

Todd finished a 1,000 piece puzzle this week.

I found this receipt tucked away in my backpack this week.  It is from Dec. 24th, 2006.  The reason it’s significant is because this was the last dinner we had all together (my entire family including my mom, my dad, Todd, Todd’s parents, and my sister’s family) before my mom passed away in February 2007.  I miss my mom.

I got some crafty time in this week.  I made more progress on my Project Life album.  I made one page that was almost all hybrid (digital printed out).

Today I started another Project Life page, the part in April where Peppermint visited us.  I thought to myself, hmm, what better way than to use the papers she designed for Gossamer Blue!  But I had some performance anxiety.  I always get jitters trying to cut into the pretty papers that she designs, lol.  I'm scared!

But I did cut the paper, and you would not believe how LONG it took me just to make this one title card for a page.  Sigh.

Some Noodle cuteness.  Mr Bluebird on Todd's shoulder... Noodle loves to perch himself on Todd's shoulder for a better look around the world, lol.

Still loving his tissue papers and plays in them all the time.

Tonight we are relaxing, blogging, and getting ready for the week.  I love ordinary scenes like this:  Todd relaxing in his recliner, having a glass of wine, and watching the NBA playoffs.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween from Velma & Fred!  We’re off solving mysteries with Mystery Inc. 

I carved the Scooby pumpkin last night from this template that I printed from the internet. 

And here’s what it looked like tonight.

And we had lots of roasted pumpkin seeds last night.  Yum!

All the kids that came to our door tonight to trick-or-treat recognized us.  Some of their little faces lit up when we answered the door.  That was super-cute and fun! 

The best thing about our costumes?  All thrift store finds!  They are real clothes, not costumes bought from stores/internet.  I couldn’t find orange knee socks, so I bought white ones and dyed them with Rit dye. 

And guess what?  Now I have Halloween photos to scrap!  Bonus!

Wackiness

There are a couple of items of wackiness from the past couple of weeks that deserve their own blog post. 

First, we went to dinner at Kappa Sushi on Wednesday 6/20, because it was Summer Solstice and the longest day of the year.  We usually take the day off so we don’t spend the longest day of the year at work, but this year we went to work because we were already taking days off to go to Santa Barbara the week after.

The bento box was super-yummy.


However, in the middle of dinner, wackiness ensued.  While we were eating, a news crew with big cameras and lights came in, along with a couple of really big guys.  I knew right away they were football players.  They sat at a big table behind Todd.  Pretty soon more HUGE guys arrived.  Turns out about 9 guys showed up, all huge.  And from hearing them talk, we figured out that they were all part of the San Diego Chargers (NFL football) defensive line. 

They got into our space even.  Intruders during dinner!


The news channel was doing an interview with them.  Did I say these guys were HUGE? 






The best part of the evening? They made one of them sing.  The big guys started chanting "Logan, Logan, Logan..." and incited all of us to chant as well.  Logan Harrell stood up and asked what should he sing?  The woman at the table next to us said "Don't Stop Believing".  He started singing it but didn't know the words, so Todd helped him, LOL.  Almost the whole place was singing “Don’t Stop Believing”. 

The other wacky item of note occurred on Saturday 6/23.  Todd participated in his second annual Red Dress Run, organized by the Hash House Harriers.  You can read about last year’s Red Dress Run on his blog.  Basically, Todd loves to participate in wacky races.  The wackier, the better.  You can read about his Krispy Kreme Challenge, and the Muddy Buddy too.

He Makes A Good Sue Sylvester

This year for Halloween, Todd decided he could pull a Sue Sylvester off.  So he bought a track suit and a whistle, and asked me to style his hair a little bit.

Not bad.  But he needed to work on his meanness.  He didn’t slushy anyone either.

He entered the Halloween costume contest at work and found some stiff competition.  For one thing, our friend Dejah made a Lego Boy costume completely from scratch.  She used a caliper and made an exact replica of a Lego Boy, to scale!

Obviously, she won the contest.  Her coworkers carted her around on a cart to show everyone, because walking was a bit difficult, and she couldn’t sit down, LOL.  Dejah did a fantastic job!  Here another one of Todd’s coworkers helped Dejah with her Lego head.


Not only did Dejah make her own Lego Boy costume, she also helped make her department’s group costume, the Trolls.


Todd’s friend Alan was Lamar Odom.

This guy actually made three life-sized cutouts of his previous costumes…


But then he dressed up this year as a Mexican wrestler.  Maybe he’ll make a life-sized cutout of this one and put it next to the other three…


I’m not sure what she was, but I dig the pink wig!


Finally, the costume-contest runner up was Todd’s friend Ryan, who was Pee Wee Herman.  He already took off the bow tie here, but with the bow tie he looked way more Pee Wee.

Dumplings and a Red Dress

Yesterday Todd and I went to Dumpling Inn for the first time in a long while. Dumpling Inn is my favorite Chinese restaurant in San Diego, especially for dumplings (duh). I always get the shrimp and chive dumplings.



Todd always gets the pork potstickers.


And we usually get a vegetable too. These sauteed Chinese greens were divine.

It's a good thing he ate up, because later in the afternoon was the 24th Annual San Diego Hash House Harriers Red Dress Run, where both men and women wear red dresses and run a few miles through the streets of San Diego, followed by a party afterwards. I didn't go because the whole thing took about 7 hours between leaving the house and coming home, and I just didn't want to go for that long since I wasn't a participant. But Todd brought his camera so here are some photos from the run. He loves running in wacky races, as you may remember from his Krispie Kreme Challenge back in November, where he ran 2 miles, ate 12 donuts, and then ran another 2 miles.

Todd with his friend Ryan from work. The one on the right is Todd, by the way. Our friend Anne ran this race a few years ago and told Todd about it. Ever since then, Todd has wanted to run it. So this year for Todd's birthday, Anne gave him a red dress in size 8! It was a little tight. :p The purse is actually mine, it has Julius the Monkey on the other side. He asked me for a purse to carry his cell phone, wallet, keys, and camera, so that's the purse I let him borrow, LOL.

Famous Todd and His Big Mouth

I woke up early on Friday morning. Entirely too early for my tastes, but I couldn't get back to sleep. So I got up and putzed around on the internets. Suddenly I saw that Peppermint (One Little Bird) had tweeted a blog post called "The Todd Shot". Well, frick on a stick, what other Todds does she know? Hmm. I clicked over and saw this.

Seriously. She hadn't told me she was going to do this. So I laughed and snorted and literally ran upstairs with my laptop to wake Todd up so he could enjoy it too. Peppermint sure has a way with words. But Todd will take credit for the actual "Todd Shots". :p

To celebrate Todd being all famous now, we went to the newly opened SmashBurger in Del Mar on Friday night. The line was really long, but the wait was worth it. The burgers there are truly fresh and delicious. I'd say Burger Lounge now has competition!

Now Peppermint doesn't have to wallow in her ashes of shame of pulling a Todd Shot FAIL. Because apparently the Todd Shot is tremendously difficult to pull off. Just look at me.
