Hi Everyone!  I’m up on the Evalicious blog today with a layout.  I always love creating with Evalicious goodies, so I’m very excited to share my first “back to the Evalicious DT” project with you!  :-)

On Thanksgiving Day, we got to go to the beach because it was an unusually warm day at 82F degrees.  We decided to take some impromptu photos with the photobooth app on my iPhone.



I added some acrylic paint along the borders of my paper strips and photo mat to add some interest.  I love how the puffy sticker, badge buttons, tags, and stamps create some varied textures surrounding my photo.





The wood veneers (new!) also add some cool texture to the page.  I added some journaling with a Uniball Signo white pen and drew some hearts surrounding my journaling.  It is most definitely my favorite write pen to write with!

Hi Everyone!  I am up on the One Little Bird blog with a layout I created using One Little Bird's Gramercy Road collection for Gossamer Blue.  I really love this collection because the colors are fantastic and everything is so coordinated and easy to use!

We recently traveled to Oregon for Todd's sister's wedding.  The wedding was held at our Aunt's house, which is right on the river in Oregon.  It was beautiful and the wedding was beautiful.  I was inspired by love and commitment so I decided to make a layout about it.



I used a 2.5" square punch to punch out a bunch of squares from the papers.  Then I cut the squares from point to point to make triangles.  Then a lightly adhered the triangles into place before running them through my sewing machine.  I just LOVE those rose foil alphabet stickers, they are so pretty!



I usually cluster embellishments around my photo, so I used some Gramercy Road diecuts, stamps, and enamel dots to create layers around my photo.




I used the arrow stamp and gold Brilliance ink add some texture to the bottom left of my photo.  Then I added the journaling.



I adhered one of the tags onto the edge of the layout and added the rose foil alpha on top of it for my title.  I love how the shiny alphas look on top of the dark tag.  Then I sewed the alphabets down to make sure then stayed in place.



Now I have an exciting giveaway!  I bought some Gramercy Road before I received my design team box, and I ended up with almost three sets of the collection.  I’m giving some of this Gramercy Road awesomeness away! 



You will receive most of these items except for the stamp set and also only one set of papers (two sets are in the photo to show the “B” side of the papers).

Calligraphy Class @ Paper Tales

Lately I’ve been really interested in modern calligraphy, because I’ve seen it all over Pinterest and on blogs.  It seemed like it would be really fun to learn calligraphy and make my own quote prints or journal cards for scrapbooking.  So when I found out that my awesome local scrapbook store Paper Tales was holding a Calligraphy class, I signed up!  The class was taught by April Joy Hill, whom I was already following in the scrapbooking world.  What a small world that she lives in San Diego!

Practicing calligraphy this weekend on Project Life journal cards.

Calligraphy class was held on Sunday 12/1 from 1-4pm.  When I had lunch with Pearl, she said she was thinking about attending the class too.  When she found out I was planning on going, she signed up too!  Here we were in class.

My first time using a pointed-tip calligraphy pen!  We got a straight pen holder with a Nikko G nib.  Using black sumi ink. 

My first strokes felt weird and unnatural, lol.  I wasn’t used to holding the pen and the nib.  I practiced some basic strokes first.  Then using the basic strokes to build the lowercase alphabet.

I had a lot of fun in class and learned so much!  In fact, I sort of got obsessed with calligraphy and signed up for a Skillshare calligraphy class called Introduction to the Art of Modern Calligraphy.  I spent a bunch of time practicing yesterday.  Here’s some that I scanned into the computer.

I’ll be the first to admit that I haven’t practiced enough to find my own style yet.  I see all the accomplished calligraphers out there doing amazing lettering, and I’m far from where I want to be.  But it is so fun to practice and explore.  I have a feeling that this hobby will stick!

Just for fun, I scanned in the “be jolly” that I wrote above, and made this 3x4 journal card in Photoshop.  I printed it onto a Project Life 3x4 blank card.

2013 Holiday Photo Cards + Template Freebie

I made two kinds of holiday cards this year:  4x6 photo cards and also handmade stamped cards.  Today I’ll show you how I created my photo cards.

I wanted to make our photo cards this year in the 4x6 size for two reasons.  One is that they fit into Project Life pockets.  The other is that I ordered 30 prints from Persnickety Prints.  But if I needed more, I could always print more at home onto 4x6 photo paper last minute. 

I picked out the three photos I wanted to use first.  Then I created a 4x6 layered grid template in Photoshop.  I resized my three photos and used the clipping mask function in PS to “clip” the three photos to the upper left, upper right, and lower middle grids.  Then I colored the other grids (layers) red and typed the quote from the Elf movie into the upper middle grid.  Then I typed in the other sentiment into the lower left grid.  For the lower right grid, I used a reindeer graphic from Miss Tiina and then typed the year next to it. 

I kept key parts of the photos and designs 1/4” away from the borders of the layout, because I knew that with bleed, the printing would cut off parts of the edges of the design.  I saved my file as a jpeg and uploaded it to Persnickety Prints.  I printed it at 4x6 with a pearl finish on cardstock.  It is very thick and nice to hold.  Much thicker than regular photo paper.  And the pearl finish really gave it a sparkly touch.

I wanted to add a slightly handmade and dimensional touch to the photo card, so I dug into my box of sparkly sequins.

And found these silver star sequins.

I used some micro Glue Dots to adhere a few stars to each card.  Now they’re ready to be sent out!

I’m pretty happy with the way these photo cards turned out.  Later this week I will blog about my handmade holiday cards!

I actually made a second design that I didn’t end up getting printed, but I think it’s pretty cute too!

Now I have two free downloads for you!  The first is a 3x4 journal card I made using the same Elf quote on my photo card.  You can use it on your digital layouts or print it out and put it in your December Daily or Project Life albums.

A few notes about the PS/PSE layered template:

• I had to switch out some of the graphics by Miss Tiina, because she does not allow the graphics to be given away in a layered file in her Terms of Use.  So instead of the reindeer, this template has a stocking that I drew.  Of course, if you have other digital graphics that you would rather use, you can switch it out.
• The main font I used for all the text is a free font called Amatic.  If you want to include the “From” line on the bottom left, you can download the font for free and install it so that all the text look the same.  The script font in the Elf quote is Janda Stylish Script by one of my favorite font designers Kimberly Geswein.  You can download it here.
