Design A Softie | Gift for Baby

20150524-IMG_5602_blog

I purchased Papertrey Ink’s Design-A-Softie kit so that I can make little felt stuffed animals for a few friends who are having babies this year.  I love the idea of a handmade soft little animal for a new baby.  Heck, I love these for myself!  :-)  I made this cute softie kitty for my friend Monika’s baby shower.

I diecut the pieces out of paper first so I could see which pieces I wanted to use for my softie.

20150517-2015-05-17 10.36.29-1_blog

Once I knew which pieces I wanted, I diecut everything out of wool felt.  Since softies have fronts and backs, I had to cut out double the amount of items for body, head, ears, arms, legs, etc.

20150517-2015-05-17 11.10.29_blog

Then I used embroidery floss to hand-stitch it all together.  I left a hole to fill it with fiber-fill, then sewed it closed.

He is so cute!

I sewed a pocket on the back so I could slip in this tag with his name.

20150524-IMG_5601_blog

I also sewed a little “price tag” into his ear that said “made with hugs, kisses, and loving stitches”.  This piece the recipient can cut with scissors to remove.

20150524-IMG_5592_blog

I just love his little pink nose and matching belly patch!

20150524-IMG_5603_blog

I turned the paper-pieced prototype into a baby shower card and slipped everything for the baby into a box.  As you can see, Noodle took a keen interest in the little kitty softie!

20150529-2015-05-29 11.38.34_blog

I wrapped up the gift for Monika & baby and tied it up with twines and a little handmade tag.

It took a few hours to make this kitty softie, but it was way worth it!  I hope the baby enjoys this little softie for years to come!

Paper Issues | Therm-O-Web Deco Foil

20150516_FoiledCards

The new issue link party is up on the Paper Issues blog today!  It’s called “Hooray for the Red, White, and Blue” and it’s all about these three colors, patriotic, parades, Memorial Day, nautical elements.  This issue is sponsored by Therm-O-Web and it’s all about their deco foil!

Therm-O-Web sponsored this issue and sent me a few different colors of their Deco Foil and different adhesives to work with them.  I was so intrigued and wanted to experiment with it all!

The first project I did was to foil my red Moleskine Cahier notebook.

20150516-IMG_5584_CLN_600

I simply used some AC double-sided tape and adhered them to the notebook.  Then I pressed the gold Deco Foil onto the tape and peeled it off.  The Deco Foil adhered to the tape and I have a beautifully striped foil notebook!

For my next project I used two methods to add foil.  I printed the cat graphic from Simple Stories with my laser printer and ran it through my laminator with the rainbow Deco Foil on top of the print.

20150516-IMG_5573_CLN_600

For the numbers, I used the balloon numbers die from Avery Elle and diecut them out of Scor-Tape double-sided adhesive sheets.  Then I adhered them onto my card first, then put the gold foil sheet on top of the numbers and pressed down.  I removed the foil sheet and the numbers were gold foiled!

For my next project I used a couple of different methods of foiling.  I stamped the background images with cameras onto my cardstock with Versa Mark ink.  Then I heat embossed it with clear fine embossing powder.  After that I ran it through my laminator with the teal foil on top of the embossing.  This method doesn’t yield as crisp of an image as graphics printed with a laser printer, but it does give it an artsy look.

20150516-IMG_5576_CLN_600

I diecut the “thanks” using Therm-O-Web’s Double-Sided Foam Adhesive sheets and Lawn Fawn’s “Scripty Thanks” die.  Then I pressed the Deco Foil down onto the diecut word and removed it.  The foil adhered to the word and looks so pretty!

For my last project I used Therm-O-Web’s Hot Melt Adhesive and diecut stars out of them.  Then I used my laminator to hot melt the adhesive to the cardstock.  After that I peeled off the papers on top of the stars and ran it through the laminator again with the foil on top.  The blue foil adhered to the hot melt stars and turned out so cool!

20150516-IMG_5583_CLN_600

I hope you enjoyed a look at the various methods I used to add some foil to my cards!  Be sure to link up your projects to the Paper Issues blog post for a chance to win a prize pack from Therm-O-Web!

Make A Card | Hello 40 Shaker Card

20150416-2015-04-16 15.05.19_CLN

I made this card for my friend AJ’s 40th birthday.  I decided to use gold elements for some elegance and masculinity.  I didn’t think cutesy was the way to go this time,  ha ha!  I made it a shaker card by adding some gold sequins behind the diecut numbers.  There’s acetate backing the 40 so that the sequins don’t fall out.

Make A Card | A Couple of Thank You Cards

20150411-2015-04-11 14.43.16_CLN

Hi everyone!  I’m sharing a couple of thank-you cards that I made a week ago to give to friends.

The first is a thank you card for our next-door neighbor Fred.  Fred takes very good care of Noodle when we go on vacations and trips.  He took care of Noodle all week when we were in Hawaii in March.  So I made him a cat-themed thank-you card and put a gift card for him in there.

Make A Card | Lots of Cupcakes

20150327-2015-03-27 12.52.07_CLN

On Friday 3/27, I had a birthday girls happy hour with my friends from work to celebrate all of us who have March birthdays.  I decided to make birthday cards for all the other girls who have March birthdays.  I used the same stamp & die set to make each card assembly-line style.

Paper Issues | Cards Using Stamps, Dies, & Patterned Papers

20150308_cards_CN_1000

Good morning!  I am up on the Paper Issues blog today to show you some cards that I created using stamps, dies, and patterned papers! Usually when I make cards I use my stamps & dies the most.  But I challenged myself to use some patterned papers this time.  I’m loving the layered paper look on cards and it’s such a bonus that you can use scrap leftover patterned papers!

For this birthday card that I gave to my next-door neighbor Fred (who takes care of our cat Noodle when we go on trips), I used a piece of rectangular patterned paper and I sewed a border around it with Caribbean baker’s twine from The Twinery.  I stamped the handdrawn frame onto patterned paper using Lawn Fawn’s Flirty Frames stamp set.  Then I use the coordinating Flirty Frames metal dies to diecut the frame out.  I love how the Lawn Fawn dies are an outline and not solid through the middle, so it’s really easy to stamp first, then line the metal die up and make the perfect cut!

20150308-IMG_5411_CLN_600

20150308-IMG_5415_CLN_600

I made this next birthday card for my nephew.  I used Lawn Fawn’s Year Five Otter stamp set and coordinating dies to make this card, along with some patterned papers.  Otters are one of my favorite animals and I love the punny sentiment “Have an otterly great birthday”!

20150308-IMG_5418_CLN_600

20150308-IMG_5421_CLN_600

For my last birthday card that I made for a friend, I used the same stamp from Lawn Fawn’s Scripty Sayings stamp set with different colored inks to create a festive rainbow background.  I love how colorful it looks.  On the bottom of the card, I used the Happy Birthday Border Die to create a bigger “Happy Birthday to You” that stands out.  I love how the die cuts the sentiment just long enough for a horizontal card!

20150308-IMG_5422_CLN_600

20150308-2015-03-08-16.32_600

Lawn Fawn has also come out with some brand-new inks that I can’t wait to check out.  I just received some new Hero Arts ombre inks that I’m excited to use.  It would have worked really well with the Scripty Sayings stamps, but I didn’t have the ombre inks yet when I made the card. That just means I need to play with my new inks more and make more cards!  :-)

Hope you enjoyed having a look at how I used some new stamps, dies, and patterned papers to make some birthday cards for family & friends!  Don’t forget, you can use my code LISTGIRL to get 20% off your entire Paper Issues order!

20150207-2015-02-07 11.22.32_CLN

More Copic-colored cats!  I made this card for one of my best friend’s birthday.  I also wanted to play with distress inks and ink blending using a stencil.  I really like how it turned out!

Make A Card | Purr-fect Friendship

20150207-2015-02-07 09.54.16_CLN

I made some more cards in February and gave them away.  I’m just now getting to blogging about them.  I finally bought some Copic markers in February… so I colored a bunch of my cat stamps!

20150204-2015-02-04 20.47.06-1_blog

I used the cats on several different cards and this was one of them.  This card was sent to a dear friend who lives afar.

Make A Card | Todd’s Valentine Card

20150201-2015-02-01 12.03.57_CLN

This might just be the cutest card I’ve made so far!  This was my Valentine’s card for Todd.  I didn’t have any Copic markers yet, so I used my BIC markers and it turned out perfectly fine.

A few of my friends on Instagram saw this and said, “Is that Noodle slurping noodles??”  Ha ha.  Noodle and his little orange cat friend!

Make A Card | 60th Birthday Banner

20150131-2015-01-31 19.07.35_CLN

I made this card for one of my coworkers who turned sixty this week.  I’ve worked with him since 2003, so I consider him a friend as well.  I thought I would try to diecut the “60” into the circle while leaving the bottom intact.  It didn’t turn out perfect but it was pretty good.  After I diecut the circle and the 60, I diecut the same numbers from adhesive glitter foam sheets and adhered them.

Make A Card | Todd’s Birthday Card

20150131-2015-01-31 16.29.29_CLN

I made this card for Todd’s birthday, which was last week.  I thought it turned out pretty well. This was the first time I tried ink-blending a background and also partial diecutting.  I had to practice on some scratch paper first!

I used Brilliance ink in Pearlescent Sky Blue on the background, sweeping it up from the bottom with a mini ink blender.  You can see the shiny-ness in this photo below.

Make A Card | You’re The Best

20150111-2015-01-11 20.40.45-1_CLN

This year one of my goals is to make more cards. I like being able to just get crafty without having to pick and print photos first. Plus, cards get sent to people to make them smile! Usually I make my holiday cards every year and that’s about it.  In 2015 I’ll be more intentional about it.
