Life Is A Party!

REAL GENIUS PARTY

I attended a couple of parties recently. One was at my own house. Todd and I invited Dejah and Roby over for a “Real Genius” viewing party with dinner. Dejah had seen the movie many times. When we heard that Roby had never seen this 80’s classic movie, we had to remedy it. So on Monday night (3/18), Dejah and Roby came over for dinner + a movie.

Todd made homemade brownies (Chewy Brownies recipe from America’s Test Kitchen).

I’m pretty sure it was a highlight of the evening. A few of us might have eaten more than one piece (ahem).

Dinner was Spicy Beef & Tofu Salad.  So yummy!

Roby brought a bottle of his favorite wine.

And of course, what’s Real Genius without popcorn??!  Todd made some for everyone to munch on during the movie. We succeed in educating Roby on the awesomeness of Real Genius the movie. It was a “moral imperative”!

BABY QUILT PARTY

My 2nd party of the week was a make-up baby-shower for Sally, one of my best friends. We’ve been friends since 1982. Yes, that’s over 30 years. Sally was pregnant with twins early in 2012. We had planned a baby shower back in February 2012, where we had planned to decorate some quilt squares to make two quilts for baby boy and baby girl. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the party because Sally had to go on bedrest. So, more than a YEAR later, we finally had our quilt-decorating party yesterday (3/24).

Kara hosted the party and provided all the craft supplies for us to make the quilt squares.

Sally, our guest of honor.  Well, the babies too, but they stayed home with grandma so Sally can actually make some quilt squares and hang out with her girlfriends. These women are some of Sally’s dearest and longest-term friends, so this get-together was very special.

Cupcakes for everyone!  Baby Johnny and Baby Nina actually turned one on Saturday. Time flies!

Kara provided some yummy snacks for everyone to enjoy.

Kara also provided all the crafty supplies for quilt-decorating.

This is me, hard at work!  I managed to make four quilt-squares. I’m usually a very slow scrapbooker, but I guess my crafting skills and practice made me more decisive about these quilt squares and I was able to quickly make four of them.

Seeing friends and craft supplies together makes me happy!

Dana and Stacy.  Dana and Kara’s husbands were Sally’s roommates in college.

Dana was quite an artist, drawing freehand even!

This is a quilt for one of Kara’s kids. It was used as an example for the quilts we’re making for Sally’s babies.

The party was a lot of fun.  So good to get together with some friends and finally make the quilt squares for Sally’s babies!

  2. We love introducing our boys (who are 12 & 13) to 80s movies! We recently watched "Real Genius" with them :) Our favorite is "Better Off Dead" with John Cusak!

    1. Tammy - "Better Off Dead" is one of our favorite 80's movies! We love it so much and have watched it many times. In fact, after the "Real Genius" party, we had said that "Better Off Dead" is next! :)
